US officials told reporters earlier Monday that Trump would not sign the draft G7 leader. According to the New York Times, the president finally agreed to sign the statement after several changes were made to the “early draft language.” The final statement states, “G7 leaders repeat their commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.” The statement affirms Israel’s “right to protect itself,” describing Iran as “a major source of regional instability and fear,” and states that “Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.” It also calls for a resolution of the ongoing crisis and a “broader emissions of hostility in the Middle East, including the ceasefire in Gaza.”
What did Iran say about potential consultations with the US?
In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut shows that it is open to talks to resume consultations with the US if Israel’s strike against Iran is stopped. “If President Trump is genuine about diplomacy and is interested in stopping this war, the next step is consequential. Israel must stop the aggression and carry out a complete halt of military attacks on us. Our response continues.
