Spanish winger Nico Williams effectively ended his chances of moving to FC Barcelona this summer through shock developments announced by the Athletic Club in Europe on Friday morning.
“Nico Williams will be updated with the Athletic Club until 2035,” an opening statement on X, previously known as Twitter.
“The red and white winger will be committed to his heart club over the next 10 seasons, with his release clause increasing by more than 50%,” he added.
After Nico’s pursuit during which he won the Euro 2024 along with his best friend Ramin Yamal, it was believed that Barka would close with the left winger before next season.
The report spread that NICO had agreed to Barca paying 70 million euros per year until 2031.
The only thing left to iron seemed to be raising funds to trigger his 58 million euro release clause. This will obviously take place in the first few days of July.
But its value has increased by 50%, but after $100 million, it simply can’t handle it for Catalans, who are still recovering from the economic crisis that barely erased its very existence at the turn of the decade.
“For me, the heavier weight is the heart when I have to make decisions. I want to be with my people. This is my home. Aupa Athletic!”
“This new show of loyalty marks a milestone in red and white history, supporting a path of confidence in sports projects already launched by other teammates. Protecting generations,” Basque added.
The Athletic Club explained that Nico will “continue to wear No. 10, inherited from Iker Muniain, with the Champions League as a new scenario.”
“Faced with an eye-opening offer, his step was a huge success for the athletic club for the full-list athletic victory (Williams, Inaki, Nico).”
Nico’s U-turn is good news for FC Barcelona forward Rafina
Perhaps his U-turn, which has supported himself for his positional rivalry with Nico, is good news for FC Barcelona forward Rafina. But at the same time, “Rafa” could have easily switched to a cam base with a Nico on the left. As a result, Dani Ormo could gradually phase out Robert Lewandowski Verteran, whom he believed was approaching his final season at Blaugrana prior to his move to Saudi Arabia.
