Retirement has many good things, but is there one of the best perks? You now have unlimited time on vacation! And let’s face it. After decades of work, you’ve ever won a proper luxury trip. However, one person’s luxuries are another person’s nightmare (see glamping). So, how do you decide the right purpose for you?
Well, these are just some of our favorite travel destinations for retirees, due to different times and different types of travel in the year. Not only do these spots offer beauty and grandeur, they are also suitable for retirees of all ages and activity levels. Whether you prioritize adventure or relaxation, there are gorgeous destinations perfect for retirees.
1. If you don’t want to sweat in the summer, relax at the main oceanfront resort

Some thrive with the humidity and high temperatures of summer, while others warm up their holidays a little more, especially as they get older. Luckily, it’s still an option even in the summer. When visiting Maine you still experience warmth, sunshine and beaches, but it can bear a little more than other oceanfront destinations.

Maine boasts many gorgeous resorts with water. The Sea Inn at Cape Elizabeth ($2,806 per night for a two-bedroom suite this July) is one of my favorites thanks to Portland’s private beach access, world-class spa, and nearby Portland (sometimes you have to split the city’s time and nature!) Cliff House at Cape Nedick (up to $3,210 in July for a two-bedroom suite) is another incredible option. The views from the cliff of the same name are breathtaking, and the resort itself has multiple pools, excellent seafood and consciences that help you plan your statewide excursion.
2. If you want to experience winter activities in July, ski in Chile

You can avoid beach trips completely in the summer months. Pass the equator. July is winter for South Americans. So it’s the perfect time to take advantage of the incredible ski slopes there.
There are great ski resorts all over the continent, but Chile is the best choice for travelers looking for easier and seamless travel. It is a luxurious resort just hours away from Santiago, eliminating short-distance flights and times for cars that other ski destinations may need. The comprehensive resort, Ski Portillo (prices start at $1,457 per person for a 3-night stay) allows you to ski and ski the Andes Mountains. Plus, there is a hot tub and a cozy fireplace when you’re ready to relax.
Meanwhile, Hotel Valle Nevado (prices start at $1,428 for a 3-night stay in July) offers a spa and world-class food as well as a real cable car to make the mountain even more comfortable.
3. If you want to go on a unique adventure all year round, go on a Kenya safari

It’s a bucket list item for so many people for a reason. Safari is an experience you will never forget. During the day, you board a knowledgeable guide on your safari vehicle, crossing the savanna to see nature’s most adoring animals: lions, elephants, cheetahs, rhinoceros and more. (This also makes a great option for retirees who want to go outside on vacation but avoid the harshness of hiking.) After that, you can continue to admire the view, learn more about the culture and eat amazing local cuisine from your luxury resort.
Kenya is a great destination for safari seekers, and the dry season (June to October) is the perfect time to see most animals. Stay in luxury lodges like Angamamara and Sasab Lodge and see unrealistic views, beautiful soaking pools and comfortable accommodation.
4. If you want to see beautiful nature during the cold season, take an autumn leaf tour in Japan.

Japan is famous for its spring cherry blossoms, but did you know that the leaves that appear in autumn are incredible? Since late September, Japanese swass have been beautifully covered with coloured leaves thanks to the ginko trees and Japanese maples. You don’t even have to leave the major cities to admire the leaves. If you want to limit your travel time, you can easily stay and check out Tokyo or Kyoto.
If you’re happy to get used to another flight, consider heading to Hokkaido, Japan’s second largest island and known for its hot springs. That way you can stay at a luxurious 5-star resort like Kuramure (starting at $202 per night). So you can take it on Japanese truly wonderful autumn leaves to relax and soak in warm water.
5. If you want to get into the mindset of your holiday, take a river cruise and watch the Christmas market.

One of the most magical places in November or December is the Christmas market in Europe. Glittering light, historic charm, unique food stalls – it’s not an opportunity to buy special gifts for your loved ones you won’t find anywhere else, but also a way to truly indulge in the festive atmosphere. Of course, visiting Christmas markets in multiple countries can be an tiring trip unless you take a river cruise.
Several cruise companies take Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary, Austria and more to the river, offering travel that is particularly dedicated to the Christmas market. For example, Viking Cruises have cruises along the Rhine, Elbe and Danube (from $2,799) that will drop you off to see the most attractive and festive markets in Europe. It’s clean, relaxing and a great way to celebrate your holiday!
6. If you want to go to the beach in winter, travel to Fiji

Sometimes, the only way to beat the winter slump is to go to the beach. Luckily, on a trip to Fiji you can indulge in some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Clear turquoise sea, white sand, palm trees – basically think of a slice of tropical heaven. The slow pace of life in Fiji is also suitable for retirees, making them truly relaxing and enjoying the weather on the beach. (Snorkeling and scuba diving are also recommended when you’re in Fiji. All water activities are top notch here!)
Fiji also has many luxury resort options, so you can really indulge in beautiful, spacious suites, spas, fine dining and pool complexes. The 5-star Hotel Wakaya Club and Spa (prices starting at $1,957 per night) is a luxurious option thanks to the waterfront villa and the infinity edge pool. Meanwhile, Tokoriki Island Resort (starting at $1,107 per night) is an adult-only resort that promotes off-grid vibes and offers endless massage packages. There’s nothing more relaxing than that!
