Huma Finance co-founder Erbil Karaman described the atmosphere of the planned $148 million dinner with US President Donald Trump as “rechargeable and eventful.”
Most of the 220 participants were “mainly Asian”, but the quality of the food was “unfortunate”. Despite this last detail, if he had the chance to do it all over, Karaman would “absolutely.”
A once in a lifetime opportunity
As head of Huma Finance, a cross-border payment funding platform, Karaman has created a leaderboard and decided to get as many Trump tokens as necessary to travel to the East Coast and visit President Trump.
Karaman’s main motivation was his frustration at the stagnation of regulations around Stubcoin. For him, the dinner highlighted “a critical moment where American leadership in financial technology rests on balance.”
This is something he had to say about his experience.
What was the preparation process?
On May 13th, I received a confirmation email detailing the event and then a request was made to send basic information about the security background check.
After filling out the form, I received a call confirming attendance and confirming whether I needed accommodation. The entire process was smooth, professional and thoughtful.
Were there any arrangements made for holders who wanted to stay completely anonymous?
Yes – Third-party services handle security background checks and ensure that information is confidential.
Only minimal details were requested. The ID was required when entering it, but no one was asked to publicly disclose his identity. Professional camera equipment was not permitted, and most participants paid tribute to privacy when taking photos and videos.
What was the atmosphere like at the Trump Crypto dinner?
The atmosphere was recharged and eventful. About 30 protesters gathered outside the venue, and security was very close.
No vehicles are permitted inside. Guests had to leave their cars in front of protesters and escorted multiple security checkpoints before entering the clubhouse.
What were the highlights other than the president’s appearance?
Guests arrived early to secure a table near the stage. Each sheet provided a gift bag containing fight-fight-themed hats, posters and collectable cards.
The crowd of about 200 participants was international, primarily Asian, and included founders of major crypto projects, investors and influencers.
Following Trump’s speech, Justin San, the biggest owner of Trump Coin, took to the stage to attract audiences and introduced Trump’s surveillance.
Can you share your personal insights and experiences from the event?
The overall mood was optimistic, and participants wanted to hear Trump’s vision for US leadership in crypto innovation and regulation. Trump arrived by helicopter and gave a 25-minute speech reaffirming his commitment to moving the industry forward.
A light dance to the YMCA after the speech energised the crowd. In addition, Trump branded wine was served, but the quality of the food was disappointing.
Who was your most famous guest besides Justin Sun?
Apart from Justin Sun, there were a few recognizable celebrities out there. Lamar Odom was the most recognisable man in the room.
Many well-known crypto founders from around the world were also present along with a diverse mix of investors.
Why did Justin Sun give a speech? How was that?
Justin was invited to speak as an honorary guest as the number one holder for the $1 Trump Meme Coin. He expressed his excitement to attend the event in DC along with some of the most powerful supporters of the crypto movement, including President Trump.
The Tron founder said this moment was something he didn’t think it was possible without Trump’s influence. He called on the international crypto community to unite behind Trump and his policies, highlighting his continued personal support throughout Trump’s presidency.
During the event, Justin was also presented with a collectable card watch on stage.
How long did dinner last?
The doors opened at 5:30pm, dinner was served around 7pm, and President Trump spoke for about 25 minutes around 7:45pm. The program concluded around 10pm, followed by an informal afterparty for additional networking.
Have you been disappointed with Trump’s brief appearance?
The opportunity to attend and hear from President Trump in person about his vision for US leadership in Crypto was valuable in itself.
Did you expect to personally talk to Trump before attending?
No, I didn’t have that expectation. With over 200 guests in attendance, I realized that it was not possible.
Was that a good networking opportunity?
yes. I connected with Crypto founders and investors around the world, and reconnected with some of Huma investors. Many of our global partners were present and wanted to better understand the direction of our crypto policy.
If you can do it again, will you become the top top owner to attend?
absolutely. I think it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the enthusiasm of the community that we are looking for in the United States to lead such an important global financial revolution and hear firsthand how the president will support US-led initiatives to set a global example.
After spending the past week in South Korea during election week, I’ve heard both sides of the political debate discuss how they will follow Trump’s custody policies.
The South Korean partners specifically mentioned how much they would like for dinner, as they truly believe such US-led policies can open up global markets, especially during the economic slowdown that is currently facing.
